About us

A Ugandan family company on Lake Bunyonyi

Bunyonyi Safaris Ltd has worked in travel, transport, hospitality and tourism since 1996 — nearly thirty years, all of it in Uganda.

Since 1996

Transport first, then hospitality, then training

We began as a Ugandan-registered travel and transport company. Guests kept asking where to stay on the lake, and the resort grew out of that; the Skills Institute grew out of the resort, because the kitchens and front office we already ran turned out to be the best classroom in the district.

Everything is still run by the same family, on the same shore. The people who meet you at the front desk, guide you across the lake and cook your dinner are from the villages around Lake Bunyonyi — many of them trained here.

That is the whole idea of the business: keep the work, the training and the money in the community that the lake belongs to.

Community & sustainability

The Institute is the point, not the marketing

The Bunyonyi Safaris Skills Institute was established as a social contribution: to give young people and women from the communities around the lake employable skills in hospitality and tourism.

Students train inside a working 4-star hotel — real kitchens, real guests, real service standards — and complete supervised internships on site. Their qualifications are examined and awarded by the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board.

Guests staying at the resort are part of that, simply by being here. Sponsoring a student is the most direct way to help.
